Before I came to Evolve, I had been training in Tang Soo Do for four years. I had reached the rank of black belt instructor but felt that there was a limit to the knowledge I could learn and that some of the techniques were dated. I was shocked to find that the curriculum at Evolve Academy was constantly evolving and that "perfect aggressive situation" theories were replaced with things that worked against a real, breathing, fighting opponent. What inspires me about the instructors at Evolve academy is the passion they have not only for the art but for their students. They teach like their whole life revolves around it and pour their knowledge, excitement and quality life lessons into every class. They work hard to find not only the most effective techniques, but also the best way to teach them. If something doesn't work, they change it.
Teaching has made me think on a whole new level. The challenge of explaining a technique to a student so he will be able to understand it helps my performance as well, and nothing compares to the satisfaction of being there when he really "gets it". It's really amazing to see a bunch of rowdy five year old kids transform into a neat, respectful line yelling "yes sir!" I am impressed to see how much kids learn and remember and when challenged, how much they grow. To see a student walk out of Evolve fully capable of grappling not only on the mat but ready to grapple any challenges that come his way is incredible. If I ever have kids, they will all be students at Evolve academy.
